How does God recognize you?
By: Kedron Holyfield
See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;” Isaiah 49:16
What makes you stand out in a crowd? How would your friends pick you out in a crowd?
If you ask anyone who knows me how they would pick me out in a crowd odds are they would say one of two things, my laugh or my curly hair. My laugh is as loud and bold as my hair is curly and kinky. They are two of my most distinct features but, even with these two distinct features it could be hard to pick me out in a large crowd of people.
This got me to thinking if it is hard for my friends to pick me out in a crowd of a few hundred how can God pick me out of the more than 7 billion people on earth? What makes me distinct to him.
I started searching scripture and here is what I found. Jeremiah 1:5 tell me “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you”. Jesus was speaking to Jeremiah but the same is true for you and I – he knew me even before he formed me in my Mother’s womb. WOW!!! Luke 12:7 tells me “Indeed the very hairs on your head are all numbered.” Amazing!!! Jesus has every curly kinky hair on my head numbered. Isaiah 43:1 tells me that Jesus calls me by name and that I am his. A lot of people have trouble pronouncing my name but not God - he knows my name!
These verses make my heart soar and they should yours too. No matter how much trouble your friends may have picking you out in a crowd you never have to worry about Jesus knowing you. He knows your voice above all the others, he knows your heart, he knows your soul, he knows you because he knew you before he created you, he knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb. He knows you because you are his.
Thank you Lord for these assurances. No matter how lost I feel in the crowd or how small I feel my voice is in the crowd you know me and you love me. I am yours and for that I am thankful. In Jesus name. Amen.
